XU4 Power Consumption?

Unread postby cagdas001 » Mon Mar 20, 2017 11:52 am

Hello, I could not find the power consumption values of XU4

I'm planning to buy this UBEC to power up the XU4: https://hobbyking.com/en_us/5v-5a-ubec- ... 2-21v.html

If you have better proposals please let me know

My questions:

1. What is the power consumption of the only XU4 without any USB devices?

2. I'll be using USB WiFi module and a USB webcam in addition. What would be the consumption in this case?

3. As far as I read on UBEC's reviews, this UBEC is giving 5.45 V. May XU4 take damage?

4. According to your experiences or knowledge, may I have problems with the UBEC module (5V,5A) mentioned above to power up XU4?

Thank you

power consumption is 4 amp although if running a hdd that requires heavy load and or inrush current 6 amp is recommended

what would you be using to power the regulator because it is only a dc-dc converter...????

5000 mAh 4S 25C LiPo, 2x in parallel

So it's better to use a 6A.

5.45 V is ok by the way? What is the Voltage range with extra USB devices?

5.45 should be ok recommended is 5 volt
but often there is voltage drop over the power lines
for this reason you may only see 5.2 volt or less on the board...
they push up the voltage to allow for voltage drop over power lead length

Do not apply DC source to the XU4 if it is higher than 5.3Volt.
It can kill the PMIC on the XU4 probably.

Thank you for the critical information

Do extra USB devices increase the required voltage? As far as I remember, I had read something like that somewhere. So, I mean, is exactly 5V enough for the XU4 + USB WiFi Module + USB cam? Or it's better to use with a little bit higher voltage like 5.2 V?

Exactly stable 5Volt is not easy to implement.
Most PSU/UBEC outputs show 5.2Volt at light load(~0.5A) and 4.8Volt at really heavy load like ~3A.
But 4.3~4.5Volt was okay with most USB devices except for the USB HDD.

Thank you for your replies

I have ordered a HENGE 6A UBEC: http://www.himodel.com/electric/HENGE_6 ... _UBEC.html

that should be fine although once connected you should measure the voltage drop you have on the board,,
the regulator boasts 5 v volts this is fine ...
keep your supply leads from the regulator to the xu4 short as possible

measure with a DMM pin 1 of the 30 pin header with the board running ..
it is located closest to the heat sink and closest to the usb 3 ports.
your voltage drop at that point will determine whether
you need more power to the board keep in mind odroids advice as well...

i am some what interested in what power supply will be powering the regulator

generally the more devices you use will require extra current and the voltage drop will be minimal .
but the usb devices you have listed wont draw a great amount of current..
hence very little difference to the total voltage drop...
