Assistant with Speech Recognition

Unread postby Vincent » Wed Jan 14, 2015 6:32 pm

Hi everyone,

I just received my C1 yesterday :D. This is not my first devboard as I already use an XU Lite and a U3 at work. But, this one is for my projects/fun.

I'm sure the C1 will be a wonderful media player and I plan to let the default image on it (Ubuntu + XBMC). But, additionally to this role, I would like to develop a webapp which will play the role of a small "Jarvis", from those who know Iron Man (who doesn't ?!). The development part is not a problem at all. The speech (audio input) will come from many different devices, all using Google JS API (Chrome / Chromium only, on PCs, Macs and Smartphones), and I'll do the parsing job to execute different tasks.

The point is: as the C1 will also be a media player, I would like to be able to give him "instructions" (speeches) when I'm close to it, without having to bring out my smartphone/tablet. That's where I get into troubles: if I use this AUDIO USB module, I will be able to use a microphone.
My question is: is this the only module compatible with the C1? Is Ubuntu using a "generic" usb driver or do I need to find a module with a driver which can work on linux/ARM? My concern is about paying three times the price of the module in shipping fees :( (From South Korea to Europe)...

Thanks!

Any critics/reading suggestions are welcome regarding what I said above.

Regards
Vincent

The USB Audio works with Android platform at this moment.
I think "Ok Google" voice assistant (Siri thing?) should work on the C1.

But we didn't try the audio input function on the Ubuntu yet.
In fact, we need to modify a configuration file to enable our USB sound card due to the badly configured HDMI audio drivers.

Some people already enabled the USB Sound blaster.

Or you can try our UK or Germany distributors if you are living in EU.

Great! Thanks for the quick answer Odroid!

It's not a HUGE issue at the moment if I can't directly "speak" to the board, I will do it with my smartphone.

I'll do the first tests ASAP and let the forum know what's new here.
