VU8--no picture from C2 after Android reinstall

Unread postby DroidMasterX » Fri Mar 17, 2017 4:30 am

I just reinstalled Android on my 32 GB Emmc module, and I have no display to my VU8 screen. It flashes a few times, then nothing. The backlight is working, but nothing else.

The VU8 works via direct HDMI from my ODROID C1, and the C2 displays to another monitor, but the C2 is not working with the VU8.

Here is my boot.ini:
Code: Select all

It was working perfectly fine before I reinstalled Android on the EMMC. I cannot see that any of the cables are torn or broken. If pictures are necessary I can send those. I do NOT have the red and white cable plugged in at all. Since the C2 works with another screen, and the VU8 works with the C1, it leads me to believe that something is wrong with the Android installation or boot.ini file, but I do not know what could have gone wrong.

Any help is much appreciated.

Currently I have 5.1.1 version 2.8 flashed. I tried 3.4 before and that didn't work so I went back to my previous version that worked originally which was 2.8.

Flash the V3.4 image and configure the resolution and enable "DVI" mode.
You also need to disable the display auto-detection in the boot.ini file.
setenv display_autodetect "false"

It still does not work. I have 3.4 flashed, and I am attaching my boot.ini again. What could be wrong with it??

I couldn't find what's wrong in your boot.ini file.
We will try to reproduce the issue early next week.

I didn't think it would work and I tried just to be sure. Removing the 2 pin jumper doesn't allow power to the board itself, thus it does not work.

Also @ odroid, to help your reproduction of my problem, here is exactly my setup.
ODROID C2 with the VU8, and all the necessary connections there
Android v 3.4 with boot ini above (you already know this)
bluetooth and wifi dongle 0 connected to a USB hub
no red and white wire connected
RTC shield connected
32 GB EMMC module from Hardkernel

I hope this helps--I will also be trying things over the next few days. I will update you if I find anything out.

It is still not working. :( I do not know why, I will try again with the C2 and another monitor when I can. The only thing that I can see that changed is that instead of the screen remaining black, it remains blank but lit.

Here is my boot.ini. I hope there is an easy solution here :?

Re: VU8--no picture from C2 after Android reinstall

Unread postby DroidMasterX » Thu Mar 23, 2017 9:58 am

Sorry for the total noob question but how do I do what the link says? Where do I add it into boot.ini, or do I need to add it somehow else?

It also says add the script file to /system/bin/ but I can't find that anywhere in Windows...I'm probably doing this all wrong and again sorry for the noob question.

Do you mean you had no issue with V2.8 image?
Did you install the two-wire jumper in Vu8 PCB?

I originally did not have a problem with v2.8 but now it doesn't work for me.
I did not install the two wire jumper either time because it caused problems before, should I try doing that?

No. you don't need to install the two wire jumper if you don't need the brightness control.

I think you might have other hardware assembly issue since v2.8 doesn't work now.

I disassembled and reassembled the entire project all over again with extreme caution. I am flashing the old image to my eMMC and I will tell you the results tomorrow at the latest.

We just confirmed the latest v2.5 and v3.5 images work with the Vu8c.

OK I have reason to believe that my HDMI to HDMI part is not functioning correctly, as the C2 works with another monitor, and the C1 works with the VU8 via an HDMI cable. I will try my other part when I get the chance and tell you what happens.

I will also try HDMI cable, but it might take a few days before I can try it. I am extremely busy at the moment.

Don't need to rush the test.
Once you have a test result, just let me know.
